My TED talk has close to 2 million views!
I was named a "Woman Working to Do Good" by the White House.
I am so thankful you made it here to the place where rap lyrics and faith talks often get fused into the same sentences. Take off your shoes, pour the coffee, grab the blanket. Let’s talk.
This corner of the Internet is my warehouse for all the honest essays I can possibly write about everyday things we all deal with: relationships, falling in love, friends, loss, heartbreak, redemption, faith, adulting, and getting over fear & lies. I care a lot about health, especially as someone who deals with anxiety and depression on a daily basis.
I began writing in this little corner of the internet in December 2009. My first post wasn’t pretty and I can’t believe I actually wrote some of the stuff I did. But I admire the girl who didn’t hold back and who really thought life was simple. She holds a special place in my heart.
Since then, I’ve watched this space grow and become so much bigger than I could imagine. From here, I started a love letter movement. I still run it today.
My life flipped upside down in 2012 when my audition for TED Global became a TED Talk of the Day. I started speaking around the country (even though I hated being on stage) and I started the process of writing my first book that came out in March 2015. I just finished work on my second book “Come Matter Here.” It will be out in bookstores May 29, 2018.
Today, I run my own creative company where we do our best to focus on good words. I teach writing classes on the internet and I have a little shop because I believe words are everything. To me, words have always been a covering. They soothe me and bring me closer to God.
A New Englander at heart after living there for 26 years, I’ve been down south for the last three years. I met my husband on a dating site after years of thinking I would meet him in aisle 7 of the grocery store. The Internet has given me most good things so I shouldn’t be surprised it gave me the sweetest, kindest partner. We are no marriage experts and I hardly write about marriage for that reason but I’m thankful to have two years under my belt with this guy. We live in a walking neighborhood of Atlanta and we love camping, binge-watching BBC crime shows, and forsaking all adult responsibilities lined up for the evening for a meat and cheese plate at our neighbor’s restaurant.
